FRIDAY PREPS: St. James soccer routs Trinity; Lowndes baseball splits DH

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 5, Trinity 0

Katie Brightwell scored all five goals in the game to give the Trojans a 5-0 win over the Wildcats at Carlisle Field on Friday afternoon. 

Brightwell, the leading scorer in Alabama High School Athletic Association history, now has 239 goals in her career. 

Mary Grace Hixon recorded four assists and KK Corley had the other for the Trojans. 

Katie Irving recorded her ninth shutout for the year with the help of the backline of Hannah McCain, Hope McCain, KK Corley and Charlie Jenkins.

Trinity dropped to 10-3 with the loss. St. James (12-1-1) will travel to Phenix City on Tuesday to play Central High.

Prattville Christian 3, Holy Spirit 0

PRATTVILLE -- Senior Avery Rogers scored all three goals on Senior Night to lead the Panthres to a huge area win over Holt Spirit on Friday night at Panther Stadium. 

Addison Sutton had a pair of assists while Kendall Jordan recorded the shutout victory in goal. 

PCA (5-9) evened its area record at 2-2 and will play host to Brew Tech on Monday.

Catholic 9, Dale County 0

MIDLAND CITY -- Eryn Owens scored five goals and assisted on another as the Knights closed out 4A Area 2 play with a 9-0 win over Dale County on Thursday night.

Michael Ann Williams added two goals and an assist, Carsyn Hawkings had a goal and two assists, Joanna Marlow scored a goal, Ava Crimi had a pair of assists and Sawyer Carroll and Aurora Lemuz each had an assist. 

Goalkeeper Heather Walski picked up her 15th shutout of the season, turning back the one shot on goal with an easy save. 

Catholic (15-3-1) finished area play with a 9-1 record and will return home to play Houston Academy on Tuesday in the final regular season game before playing in the playoffs the next week.

BOYS SOCCER

Prattville Christian 2, Holy Spirit 1

PRATTVILLE -- Cade Segars scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in the first overtime period to lead the Panthers to a huge area win at Panther Stadium on Friday. 

Spencer Perkins recorded the victory in goal. 

PCA (5-9) evened its area record at 2-2 and will play host to Brew Tech on Monday.

SOFTBALL

Central-Phenix City 3, St. James 2

TALLASSEE -- The Red Devils scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 3-2 win over the Trojans, snapping St. James’ winning streak at nine games dating back to its last loss to Central in the Gulf Coast Classic.

Central managed just four hits off of Emily Needham but two batters were hit by pitches in the seventh and eventually scored to win the game for the Red Devils in the opening round of the Purple and Gold Round Robin on Friday.   

Kamryn Hammock went 2 for 3, scored once and drove in a pair of runs for Central.

Ally Supan pitched a complete game, allowing just six hits and two runs while striking out five.

Sydney Johnston went 3 for 3 and scored once for the Trojans. Kaitlin Hudson singled and later scored, Tat Shuford singled and Lily Stanford singled.

Needham walked two and struck out nine in the loss.

St. James 9, Tallassee 0

TALLASSEE -- The Trojans broke open a tight game with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game with the host Tigers on the mercy rule in the Purple and Gold Round Robin on Friday.

Peyton Middleton pitched all five innings for the Trojans, allowing three hits while striking out four.

Madeline Weldon doubled and Cheyann Easterling and Alli Smith singled for the Tigers.

Ava Stanford doubled and homered for St. James, going 2 for 3, scoring twice and driving in six runs. Sydney Johnston and Arden Green had the other two hits for the Trojans.

St. James (26-2) returns to action in the tournament on Saturday.  

BASEBALL

Lowndes Academy 2-7, Southern Academy 6-0

LOWNDESBORO -- After drawing first-round byes in the AISA state baseball playoffs, Lowndes and Southern elected to play each other on Friday, splitting a doubleheader.

In the first game, Brayden Hennigan, Cooper Thorn and Wyatt Martin combined to hold the Rebels to a pair of runs and three hits in a 6-2 victory.

Dominic Dougan went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Lowndes.

For Southern, Drew Rogers went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Hayden Johnston went 2 for 3, scored twice and drove in a run, Preston Campbell went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and J.R. Copeland and Martin had RBI hits.

In the second game, Lowndes jumped on Southern pitcher Hayden Johnston for seven runs in the first inning on the way to a 7-0 victory. Grant Casey went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Dougan went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Cooper Dansby went 2 for 3 and scored a run. 

Bradyn Stokes pitched three innings in the five-inning contest and picked up the win, allowing just one hit.
