HOOPS RECAPS: Bullock Co wins to force area host coin flip; Autaugaville surprises Pike Road

Catholic 73, Alabama Christian 51

Catholic jumped out to a quick lead and coasted to their sixth Area 4 victory in as many games with a 22-point win over the Eagles in the ACA gym on Tuesday night. 

Justin Bufford had 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and eight blocked shots, while Myles Butler had 10 points, five rebounds, six steals and three assists. DJ Carter followed with eight points, five rebounds and three steals and Johntavius Green had eight points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Knights.

Avery Stuart led Alabama Christian with 18 points, followed by Jalen Clark with 10.

Catholic (23-4) will play host to Elmore County on Thursday at 7:15p.m., before facing ACA again in the first round of the area tournament next week in the Catholic gym.

 

Evangel Christian 61, Crenshaw Christian 32

LUVERNE -- Jakolvian Johnson led all scorers with 16 points and seven rebounds to give Evangel the area win over Crenshaw on Tuesday.

Jhamari Giles finished with 11 points and six rebounds while Jordan Grice added 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Tyree Curry chipped in nine points, five assists and two steals. 

The top-ranked Lions (24-1, 5-0 in area play) will host Eastwood on Friday for their final regular season game.

 

Autaugaville 67, Pike Road 66

PIKE ROAD – Autaugaville spoiled the Patriots’ final home game of the regular season with an upset of the Patriots in the Pike Road gym on Tuesday night.

Harrison Wallace scored 24 points and Shaun Holmes added 23 for Pike Road (18-5), which travels to Beulah on Thursday.

Bullock County, 60, St. James 46

Luke Sturdivant scored 19 points and JC Green added 16 as the Hornets clinched a share of the 3A Area 5 regular season championship with a 60-46 win over the Trojans in the St. James gym on Tuesday night.

Bullock County and Pike Road, both finishing 5-1 in area play, will meet on Wednesday for a coin flip to determine the host team in the area tournament next week.

Bradley Thomas led St. James with 16 points, followed by Andrew Sadie with nine. The Trojans travel to ACA on Thursday and Catholic on Friday.

 

Prattville Christian 46, BTW Magnet 44 (OT)

PRATTVILLE -- Jacob Comer had a monster game with 31 points and eight rebounds to lead the Panthers to the overtime victory on Tuesday night.

Coleman Hunter added six points and 10 rebounds, Stillman Davis had four points and eight rebounds while taking three charges and Camron Coleman scored three points for PCA (9-19, 3-1 in area play).

 

Marbury 62, Montgomery Academy 58

With leading scorer Oliver Bear sidelined by an illness, the Eagles dropped Monday’s game to 5A Marbury 62-58 at Joe Mooty Court.

William Norrell led the Eagles with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, followed by Jamal Cooper with 12 points and five assists and William Robertson with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Britton Kohn added eight points and nine assists, while Thomas Kirkham scored seven points, grabbed 16 rebounds and took three charges defensively.

Montgomery Academy (15-10) will play Chilton County at home on Thursday, followed by the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic with Trinity on Friday at home.

 

St. James 65, Prattville Christian 59

PRATTVILLE – Bradley Thomas scored 22 points and Andrew Sadie added 20 as the Trojans defeated the Panthers 65-59 in the PCA gym on Monday night.

Alex Rountree added 14 points for St. James, which returns home to play Bullock County on Tuesday.

Jacob Comer led the Panthers with 16 points and seven assists, followed by Coleman Hunter with 15 points and eight rebounds, Carson Roberson with 11 points and four rebounds and Stillman Davis with 10 points and six rebounds. Tillman Makupson had five points and eight rebounds for PCA (8-19).

Evangel Christian 37, Crenshaw Christian 27

Zaria Johnson had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lions to an A Region 1 Area 2 win in the Evangel gym on Tuesday night.

Evangel (11-13) finished 2-2 in area play and will face an opponent from a Region 1 Area 1 in a sub-state game next week, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.

 

GIRLS

St. James 56, Bullock County 28

KK Hall hit six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead St. James to an easy 3A Area 5 victory over Bullock County in the St. James gym on Tuesday night.

Danielle Green added 10 points, followed by Chelsey Craig with eight and Hannah Grace Griggs with seven as the Trojans built a 20-point lead at the half and coasted to their second win over the Hornets this season.

St. James (13-11) improved to 2-4 in area play and will travel to Alabama Christian on Thursday and Catholic on Friday.

Macon East Academy 41, Northside Methodist 38

CECIL – The Knights built an eight-point lead over the first three quarters, then held off Northside at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter for a 41-38 victory in an AAA Region 1 Area 2 game on Tuesday night.

Emi Lott led Macon East with 15 points despite hitting just 3 of 15 from the field. Lott went 9 of 16 at the free-throw line and Emily Nickles, who finished with 10 points, went 4 for 4 at the free-throw line. Nickels finished with a team-high 12 rebounds, followed by Kerry Straw with 10 rebounds and six points and Lott with nine rebounds.

Macon East closes out area play with a game on Thursday against Pike Liberal Arts at home before going on the road to Abbeville Christian on Friday.

 

Prattville Christian 76, BTW Magnet 21

PRATTVILLE -- Ella Jane Connell led the Lady Panthers with 18 points, six steals and six assists as PCA (26-2) rebounded from Saturday’s loss to Montgomery Academy with an area victory over BTW on Tuesday to improve to 4-0.

CoCo Thomas added 14 points and five steals, followed by Avery Rogers with 10 points and four steals, Hannah Jones with eight points, five steals and four rebounds and Chelsea Mulliner with seven points and four steals. Jacey Haynes added six points, five rebounds and four steals, Sarah Williams scored five points and Tori DeMaio had four points and seven rebounds. Naomi Taake grabbed four rebounds.

 

Prattville Christian 45, St. James 38

PRATTVILLE – CoCo Thomas had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers to a hard-fought win over St. James in the PCA gym on Monday night.

Prattville Christian (25-2) fought its way to an eight-point lead at the half and held off the Trojans the remainder of the way. Jacey Haynes added eight points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for PCA, followed by Tori DeMaio with six points and 12 rebounds, Avery Rogers with six points and Chelsea Mulliner with five points and seven rebounds. Ella Jane Connell added three points and four assists.

Danielle Greene led St. James (12-11) with 11 points, followed by Seanna Brooks with 10, Chelsey Craig with seven and Hannah Grace Griggs with six.

 

Marbury 63, Montgomery Academy 60 (OT)

Renijah Brown scored 34 points and Jazalen Morrissette added 13 to help the 5A Bulldogs to an overtime upset of Montgomery Academy at Joe Mooty Court on Monday.

Gabby Ramirez led Montgomery Academy with 15 points, followed by Millie Stevenson with 14, Madi Caddell with 12 and Leighton Robertson with 10.

Montgomery Academy (19-6) will play host to Chilton County on Thursday and Trinity on Friday.
