THURSDAY PREPS: PCA softball dominates Pike Road; St. James tops Trinity

SOFTBALL

Prattville Christian 16, Pike Road 0 (3)

PRATTVILLE -- Laura Beth NeSmith pitched a no hitter, striking out four in a game limited to three innings by the mercy rule on Thursday. 

Every PCA starter had at least one hit. Kandice Crosby hit two home runs and drove in four runs, Saniyah Weaver had three hits and five RBIs, Chloe Hollon had two hits and drove in a pair of runs and Sara Payton Schmidt had two hits. 

PCA (18-4) will hold a round robin tournament on Saturday, facing Maplesville at 9 a.m., Handley at 3 p.m. and T.R. Miller at 7 p.m. 

 St. James 11, Trinity 0 (6)

Emily Needham, Peyton Middleton and Aleigha Davis combined on a two hitter as the Trojans defeated Trinity 11-0 in a game limited to six innings by the mercy rule on Thursday at St. James.

Kaitlin Hudson, Tat Shuford, Mary Olive Maddox, Mia Zukowski and Lily Stanford all had two hits for the Trojans. Shuford had a home run and a double in four at-bats, driving in six runs. Sydney Johnston and Stanford had two RBIs each.

Evie Knight had both hits for Trinity. 

St. James (25-1) completed a 6-0 run in Area 6 play, while Trinity (6-8) dropped to 2-4 and is assured of facing Alabama Christian in the upcoming area tournament at St. James.

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 5, Dale County 2

MIDLAND CITY -- The Knights got goals from five different players to close out 4A Area 2 play on a winning note, defeating Dale County on Thursday night. 

Joe Reeves, JP Costa, Frankie Hayner, Max Freeman and Stott Blancas all scored goals, with Blancas assisting on a pair of goals. Other assists were provided by Todd Bonnell, Tony Lemuz and Tymari Isner.

Catholic finished the Area 2 race with a 10-2 record, losing to Trinity twice.

Catholic (14-5) will play its final regular season match at home on Tuesday against Houston Academy before traveling to a first-round opponent in the 4A state playoffs on April 29.
