Biscuits complete home schedule with win; Rays extend contract

Jacksonville (18-10) banged out 19 base-knocks while the Biscuits (16-12) managed just three,and the Suns burned the Biscuits, 13-1, Friday at Riverwalk Stadium. The runs and hits totals were both season-lows for the Biscuits staff.

For the second day in a row, starting pitching was the story for the Montgomery Biscuits. In a “Back to school Special” on Tuesday, it was David Newmann making the deepest outing of the season for the Biscuits, tossing 7 and 2/3  scoreless innings en route to a 4-0 Biscuits win over Mississippi. The shutout is the fourth of the season already for Montgomery.

Billy Gardner’s expectations were met in one phase on Opening Night.

He stated prior to Montgomery’s season opener that pitching would be solid.

But offense was lacking in a 3-2 10-inning loss to Mobile on Thursday at Riverwalk Stadium.

The BayBears opened the 10th with three straight singles to take the lead.

This time last year, Billy Gardner was contemplating the youth of his Montgomery Biscuits. His concerns had more to do with lack of experience rather than talent.

This year, he has a similar situation but with a better array of arms and even more talent, enough to challenge for the Southern League title.
