The Dixie Youth Baseball season is officially underway after all of the leagues located in the River Region opened with annual ceremonies this past weekend.
The leagues traditionally begin the season with pageantry that includes an introduction of league officials, team sponsors and special presentations.

The former high school football coach and executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association added another title to his list, officially, on Wednesday when he was announced as the new Sports Commissioner for the City of Montgomery.

Alabama All-Star Sports Week is officially returning to the Capital City, River Region Sports has learned.
The Alabama High School Athletic Director and Coaches Association, Alabama High School Athletic Association and the City of Montgomery are expected to make it official during a press conference at the AHSAA offices on Wednesday.

An F-1 tornado ripped through East Montgomery late Friday night and left several homes and apartment buildings in shambles.
Included in the damage were fields at Ed Thompson Park where Montgomery American and the Miracle League reside.

You see, I was not your typical Alabama kid – I liked football and enjoyed it, but I LOVED baseball. It was my passion. When one season ended, I couldn’t wait for the months to pass and the next one to get there.

The River Region united on Saturday and filled the stands of the Faulkner University Tine Davis Gymnasium to support the fifth-annual Unity Games.
The girls Red Team defeated Black, 44-22 while the boys Red beat Black, 45-30.

The fifth annual Unity Games will take place Saturday at the Faulkner University Tine Davis Gymnasium at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
This year’s event includes the participation of 22 boys, 28 girls and 24 cheerleaders.

The City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department will host the Junior High School basketball championships on Wednesday at the Robert E. Lee High School gym. The B-Team game will feature Brewbaker and Carver at 5:30 p.m. and the Varsity game will be between McKee and Georgia Washington at 7:00 p.m.
The C-team (4:30 p.m.) and Girls (6:00 p.m.) basketball championships will be held on Friday at Capitol Heights Junior High. These teams will be determined by a semi-finals game being played this week.
