Pete Van Wieren got a rare treat in his career as a broadcaster.
He became an icon as a voice of one team while becoming a household name at the same time, an accomplishment usually reserved for national broadcasters such as Howard Cosell, Curt Gowdy and Keith Jackson.
How it all came about made for a good book.
Of Mikes and Men: A Lifetime of Braves Baseball provides plenty of narratives and information that would appeal to any baseball fan. The stories include behind-the-scene accounts of the highs and lows of a team that built a following across the country.
