The Trinity Wildcats found themselves in a role reversal in Game 2 of the Class 3A state championship.
Only this time, the comeback fell short.
Madison Academy won its first state championship in baseball, beating Trinity, 9-8, in the second game of the Class 3A finals at Riverwalk Stadium on Friday. The Mustangs needed another seventh-inning rally to do it.

The Bulldogs (25-10) are one win away from their first state championship in baseball after a 3-1 victory over Athens Bible School in the Class 1A state championship at Paterson Field.

If the old axiom is true that there is strength in numbers, then the 2009 signing day may be the strongest ever.
This year's signing class was highlighted by several schools producing players in record numbers. Stanhope Elmore, Prattville and G.W. Carver had double-digit signees.
"We've never had anything like this before. . . and we may add a couple more later this week," said Stanhope Elmore head coach Jeff Foshee. "It is certainly the largest class we've ever had. It's a good group with a lot of talent."

The Goodwyn Warriors recently won the 2009 City Championship in wrestling. It was the school's eighth title in 10 years. Coach Jim McGhee led the squad to victory after losing the title last year to Carver Junior High School.
"We are very proud of what they accomplished," McGhee said. "They wanted to bring the title back to Goodwyn and the worked very hard to get it here."
Six wrestlers won individual titles this season plus Goodwyn won all five city meets and all but one tournament. Heath Fike and Thor Kilgore each lost just one match during the season to lead the Warriors.
