Tuskegee picks up 10th game for NCAA eligibility

The Tuskegee University athletic department announced that the 14th-ranked Golden Tigers have reached an agreement to face Virginia State University on Saturday in the 10th game of the regular season for Tuskegee.

TUSKEGEE - The Tuskegee University football program welcomed in 30 new Golden Tigers on National Signing Day, with four of those included as early signees (mid-year transfers).

The list includes 23 high school seniors, including 11 from the state of Alabama. The list includes schools such as Spain Park, Hoover, Demopolis, Spanish Fort, Auburn, Huffman, Austin and Park Crossing. It also includes three players who played in state championship games over the last two years.

Tuskegee advances to quarterfinals; tickets now on sale

For the first time in school history, the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers have advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The sixth-seeded Golden Tigers will face top-seeded West Georgia with 12 noon (est) kickoff, announced by West Georgia on Sunday.

TUSKEGEE - Tuskegee University and Morehouse College will meet for the 80th time in Columbus, Ga. on Saturday afternoon at A.J. McClung Stadium for a 1 p.m. (CDT) kickoff.

Tuskegee (4-1, 1-0 SIAC) comes into the game after suffering their first defeat of the season to UNC-Pembroke last week.

TUSKEGEE - For the third time in a calendar year, the two favorites expected to compete in the 2015 SIAC Championship game will meet on the gridiron this weekend.

Tuskegee (1-0) and Albany State (0-1) will face off in the second annual Whitewater Classic on Saturday afternoon at Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phenix City. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Central time.

Two simple words spoken by Tuskegee University head coach Willie Slater as he met with the media Thursday afternoon, marking the beginning of the 2015 football season.

"It seemed like it was a long time coming," Slater said of this weekend's matchup with Clark Atlanta. "But now it seems like it rushing up on us. We still have those young players we have to get ready to play, but we have done just about all we can do physically so it is a mental game up until kickoff."

TUSKEGEE - The Tuskegee University football team opened the 10th fall camp under head coach Willie Slater with 96 players on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Tigers, coming off a 9-3 record and the SIAC championship, return eight 2015 Preseason All-Conference selections. Of those eight, six are on the defensive side of the ball led by First Team selections Jewel Ratliff, Julian Morgan and Michael Robinson. The other six selected include Cedric Cuff, Osband Thompson, Darian Hall, Marquel Gardner (offense) and Devozea Gaines (special teams).

Tuskegee news: Football ranked in preseason polls; men's Bball signs six

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | After their second consecutive NCAA Division II playoff appearance and an SIAC championship in 2014, Tuskegee is ranked in two preseason football polls entering the 2015 season.

Tuskegee (9-3, 7-0 SIAC) in 2014 is ranked 22nd in the Lindy's Sports NCAA Division II Football Preseason Top 25 poll, and 24th in The Sporting News NCAA Division II Football Preseason Top 25 poll. The Golden Tigers are the lone representative in the poll from the SIAC in either poll, and are the lone HBCU representative in the Lindy's Sports poll. They are joined by fellow HBCU member, Virginia State, in The Sporting News top 25 (23rd).
