Faulkner drops SSAC game at Lee University

Contributed CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Lee took control early in the second half and then held off Faulkner down the stretch to escape with a 77-71 victory here Thursday afternoon in a key Southern States Athletic Conference game. The Eagles (7-6, 1-2 SSAC) led by as many as nine in the first half and was on top 34-32 at halftime. Lee (11-6, 2-1 SSAC), however, started the final 20 minutes on a 13-2 run, building as much as a 13-point lead. The Flames led 63-50 with 6:15 left before the Eagles battled back. Keyed by a Langston Williams three-pointer and layup off a steal, Faulkner went on a 15-5 run to the cut the margin to 68-65 with 2:01 to play. Lee withstood the rally by hitting 11 free throws in the closing two minutes. "I’m proud of our guys for continuing to battle until the end and staying aggressive," Faulkner head coach Jim Sanderson said. "But we just dug too deep a hole. We have to start bringing what happens in practice to the games. We’re not doing that right now." Faulkner was paced by Williams’ 16 points. Camille Ngon’angon added 14, while Drew Boland and Chris Palmore chipped in 11 apiece. Rodney Spruill’s 14 points led the Lee attack, which also got 13 points from Tyler Cutter, 12 from Josh Noflett and 10 from Larriques Cunningham. Faulkner hosts Spring Hill Monday at 7 p.m. |
