(Oct. 29, 2009)

Sveinn Jonsson and Stephan Arnarson had two goals each to lead Auburn University at Montgomery to a 6-0 win over Thomas University.

It did not take the Senators long to break into the scoring column as Gunnar Kristinsson took a pass from Yuki Kariya in the fifth minute for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Senators could not break into the scoring column again in the first half and the two teams went to the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

It did not take AUM long to score coming out in the second half as Jonsson scored his first goal of the match on an assist from Richonne Clark.  Jonsson scored again in the 59th minute on an assist from Kristinsson.

From there Stephan Arnarson scored on loose balls in the box within 30 seconds of each other to put the game out of reach 5-0.

Kariya finished off the scoring in the 78th minute off an assist from Chris Ross.

It was senior day at AUM and it was fitting for Jonsson and Kariya to have a big day in their final regular season match of their careers.

The Senators move to 10-3-2 overall and Thomas is 6-8-1.  AUM will conclude its regular season, Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Faulkner University.  The match is slated for the YMCA Fields and will begin at 3 p.m.

Lady Senators win

Amber Elam scored two goals and Tschana Wade added a goal and an assist to lead Auburn University at Montgomery to a 5-1 win over Thomas University.

AUM scored three times in the first half with Kristen Mitchell opening the scoring in the 22nd minute with an unassisted goal from right in front of the net.

In the 30th minute Helga Franklinsdottir added a goal on a penalty kick and Elam’s first goal of the match off an assist from Wade ended the first half scoring.

Elam scored her second goal of the match to open the scoring in the second half and Wade scored in the 67th minute off an assist from Alexandra Tomasdottir.

Thomas avoided the shutout in the 88th minute when Rachel Fell scored on a penalty kick.

AUM outshot the visitors 32-7 and Daisy Burnfield, who started in goal, recorded two saves, and Jennifer Davis, who played the second half, recorded one.

The 16th ranked Lady Senators move to 12-3-1 overall and Thomas falls to 7-8-1.  The Lady Senators will host Lindsey Wilson College this Saturday at noon.  With Saturday being Halloween, all fans are encouraged to wear their favorite outfit.
