Lady Senators lose to Martin Methodist

Contributed Tiffany Travis and Jessy Christopher scored 14 points each in leading Martin Methodist to a 62-49 win over Auburn University at Montgomery in women’s basketball action. Both teams shot well in the first half with AUM knocking down 55 percent of its shots and MMC shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half. The three three-pointers MMC hit were the difference as the Red Hawks went into halftime with a slim 30-27 lead. MMC came out in the second half and outscored AUM 11-3 start that helped the Red Hawks pull away. AUM could get no closer than seven points in the second half as MMC continued its hot shooting to keep AUM at bay. MMC shot 52 percent for the game from the field. AUM shot 49 percent from the field for the game, but could only knock down two of 12 three pointers, while the visitors hit seven of its 15 attempts. AUM also struggled from the free throw line hitting five of nine. Freshman Caitlin Cunningham led AUM with 18 points followed by Cassie Moore with 14 points and a game-high six rebounds. Martin Methodist moves to 6-2 on the season and the Lady Senators fall to 4-5. AUM will be off for the Thanksgiving Holidays and will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 5, when they host Berry College at 2 p.m. |
