Auburn returns outdoors for bowl prep

AUBURN - The Auburn football team held its second bowl practice Sunday evening, working out in foggy conditions for a little less than two hours at the practice fields behind the Athletics Complex. The Tigers worked in full pads as they continue preparations for a New Year’s Day appearance in the Outback Bowl.

Sunday’s practice opened with special teams, before the Tigers conducted individual and position drills. Following more special teams work, much of the latter half of practice included work by the offense and defense against the scout teams.

Following practice, assistant head coach Trooper Taylor said that the time off following the Tigers’ last game Nov. 27 seems to have given the squad an extra spring in its step.

"It was good to see the guys jumping around," said Taylor. "They really had a great practice today. They were flying around. What gives me a good indication is how they move around in special teams, because that’s when both sides cross over, and they were flying around."

Taylor also noted that it was the first practice outdoors for Auburn in over two weeks, as rain forced the team to practice indoors on Saturday.

"I think they missed it," said Taylor. "We had to go indoors yesterday so being able to get back outside, it was really good to get to see those guys go out there and compete."

The Tigers will not practice Monday or Tuesday due to final exams. Auburn will return to the practice fields Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT.

Auburn (7-5) is preparing for the 2010 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla., where the Tigers will meet Northwestern (8-4) on Jan. 1. The game will kick off at 10 a.m. CT in Raymond James Stadium and be nationally televised by ESPN.
