Contributed Auburn University at Montgomery opened play at its new on-campus field Tuesday as Stephanie Baxley and Brandi Richards combined for a no-hitter to lead AUM to an 8-0 five-inning win over Judson College. The win completed the doubleheader sweep as the Lady Senators won game two, 6-3. AUM scored runs in every inning of the second game, beginning with an RBI ground out from Shea Driggers scoring Lauren Wilborn in the first. In the bottom of the second, Kacie Ryal hit a two-run home run over the left field fence scoring Taylor Burt who led the inning off with a double. The Lady Senators went on to push across a single run in the third and four more runs in the fourth increasing their lead to 8-0. Baxley (1-0) kept the Lady Eagles off balance through the first four innings of play with seven strikeouts and only walking one batter. Richards came in and finished off the Lady Eagles, striking out all three batters she faced in the top of the fifth inning to end the game. In game one, AUM scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning when Monica Hatcher hit the first homerun at the new softball complex, and Morgan Dodd scored off a single by Taylor Burt. The second and third innings would go scoreless for both teams but the Lady Senators would regain momentum scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, making the score 5-0. Alli Converse had a RBI double in the inning and Richards stepped to the plate and clubbed a two-run homerun over the left field fence. The Lady Eagles answered back, when Nesha McGriff hit a two-out homerun, scoring Katherine Motteler and Tori Spencer, who had both walked earlier in the inning. The home run cut AUM’s lead to 5-3. AUM would add one more run in the bottom of the inning as Alli Converse scored on a Sara Allen groundout. Following that score, AUM’s defense would hold the Lady Eagles scoreless in the final two innings, ending the first game 6-3. Danielle Ryan (1-0) went the distance, allowing the three runs on two hits. She had 12 strikeouts in the complete-game victory. AUM is now 2-0 on the season while Judson College falls to 0-4. The Lady Senators will be back in action Saturday Feb. 19-20, when they participate in the Faulkner University Tournament.
