Sam Judah had five hits and Justin Williams had four hits and three RBI to lead Auburn University at Montgomery to a 20-13 win at Shorter College in the conference opener for both teams.

The Senators scored in each inning, including four runs in the third and eighth innings.  Shorter scored in six innings including four in the fifth and two each in the seventh and ninth.

The Senators pounded out a season-high 24 hits in scoring a season-high 20 runs.  Michael Dugan had four hits and Bruce Alter was a perfect four-for-four at the plate before leaving the game.  Both Justin Williams and Alter had a homerun for the Senators.  Alter also had two doubles and Salter and Judah added doubles.

Scott Morris led the Shorter offense with three hits and four RBI.  Austin Roberts picked up three hits for Shorter while Kurtis Robinson picked up a hit and four RBI, and Shannon Houston added two hits and two RBI.

Shorter trailed 12-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kurtis Robinson connected on a two-out grand slam to cut the lead to 12-8.  That would be as close as Shorter would get the rest of the way as AUM outscored the home team 8-4 the rest of the way.

Robby Davis (2-1) struggled against Shorter but was able to pick up the win.  Blake Chapman (1-2) picked up the loss for Shorter.  Kyle Mitchell entered the game for AUM and pitched the final three innings to keep Shorter from coming back.

AUM is 8-7 overall and 1-0 in the conference and Shorter is 5-7 overall and 0-1.  The two teams will complete the weekend series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at noon.

Lady Senators lose twice to top-ranked UAH

HUNTSVILLE- The Auburn University at Montgomery Lady Senators softball team dropped a pair of games at Alabama Huntsville on Friday, losing 10-0 and 5-3. The Lady Senators were held hitless in the first game.

The Lady Chargers scored five runs at the bottom of the third after back-to-back home runs from Kelli Long and Emily Roach making the score 5-0.

The Lady Chargers kept AUM off balance in the fourth allowing no hits and no runs. UAH would add two more runs in the bottom of the inning and then score three more in the fifth inning, to seal the deal at 10-0.

In Game 2, AUM took an early lead when Taylor Saint scored AUM’s first run of the afternoon on a double by Taylor Burt.  Burt and Alli Converse would both score after a single from Danielle Kirkpatrick for a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning the Lady Chargers answered right back with a run from Alicia Caudle after a single from Whitney Schrimsher making the score 3-1.

Errors by the Lady Senators led to four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as UAH went up 5-3.  The big hit was a two-out, two-run single off the bat of Sarah Nickey.  AUM never regained its lead as the Lady Chargers took game two, 5-3.

Stephanie Baxley (2-1) picked up the loss, going five innings and only allowing all five runs, but only one was earned.  She had eight strikeouts in the loss.

In the first game, Joanna Reynolds finished with two hits, a double and a single, while Monica Hatcher and Megan Rogers both had singles.

Danielle Ryan (4-1) picked up her first the loss of the season, giving up 10 hits and 10 runs.
