MT. VERNON, Ga.—Nathan Thomas had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead Auburn University at Montgomery to a 55-50 win at Brewton-Parker College.

The game was tight from start to finish, as AUM led 27-25 and neither team led by more than five points.

It was a defensive struggle as both teams shot 36 percent from the field.  The difference was AUM’s ability to control the boards as AUM out rebounded BPC 37-26.

Stephen Jordan had a game-high 12 rebounds while scoring seven points and Charles Perona scored 12 points.  Thomas also added two more blocked shots, becoming the all-time leader at AUM in blocked shots with 193.  The record was held by Glenn Ferguson who played from 1979-83.

AUM moves to 13-11 overall and maintains its hold on third place in the conference with an 8-5 record.  BPC falls to 8-21 overall and 2-11 in the conference.

AUM will end its regular season at Southern Polytech on Saturday.  The two teams are scheduled to begin play at 3 p.m.

Moore leads Lady Senators to win

Cassie Moore scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the AUM women to a 62-57 road conference win over Brewton-Parker College.

The game was a hard-fought defensive struggle with a total of 56 turnovers in the game.  The Lady Senators did not shoot the ball well, but entered the locker room at halftime holding on to a slim 27-26 lead.

In the second half, AUM was able to push the lead out to nine points, before the home team upped its defensive pressure and cut the lead down to five.

AUM was able to knock down their free throws late in the game to keep BPC from completing their comeback.  Moore finished the game knocking down 10 of her 13 free throws and Melanie Gess hit four of her six attempts.

Gess joined Moore in double digits with 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Nicole Jones scored 11 points and Stephanie Torrance came off the bench to chip in with nine points, all on three-pointers.

The Lady Senators move to 14-13 overall and 9-6 in conference action while Brewton-Parker falls to 10-19 overall and 4-12 in the conference.  The Lady Senators will conclude the regular season with a road game at Southern Polytechnic State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Tennis team wins road debut

ATLANTA, Ga.—The AUM men’s tennis team made its first road trip of the season a successful one with a 6-3 win over Emory University.

The Senators were able to win two of the three doubles matches, but not without a fight.  At two doubles Alex Chun and Will Humphreys of Emory were able to outlast AUM’s Loic Didavi and Julian Kurz 9-8 with a 7-5 win in the tiebreak.  The three doubles team of AUM, Sadio Doumbia and Saad Benkirane defeated Chris Redmon and Noah Simson 9-8, with a 7-4 in in the tiebreak.

The Senators then put the match away winning four of the six singles matches.  The singles winners for AUM were Alberto Romea, Doumbia, Benkirane and Didavi.

AUM remains undefeated at 3-0 while Emory falls to 2-2.  The Senators will host conference foe Emmanuel College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
