By the numbers for the upcoming AHSAA Final 48 which begins in Birmingham on Tuesday.

Defending champions back in Birmingham to defend their title. They include (girls) Bob Jones in 6A, LeFlore in 5A, Midfield in 4A, T.R. Miller in 3A and (boys) Anniston in 4A.

Undefeated team in this year’s field - J.F. Shields in girls Class 1A. Three other teams - Hoover girls (6A), G.W. Carver boys (5A) and Sunshine girls (1A) - have just one loss.

Girls teams that won the Central Regional last year that are returning to Birmingham. St. Jude is the lone team that did not repeat (Davidson won the 6A Central last year and won the 6A South Regional this year)

Boys teams that are repeat Central Regional champions - Ramsay in Class 4A is the lone returning team.

Teams representing the River Region in Birmingham this week. Both teams from Carver along with Brew Tech boys and Jeff Davis girls.

Teams making their maiden voyage to the Final 48 (or since the finals moved to the BJCC Arena). The teams include the Clements girls (2A), Houston County boys (2A), Holy Pond girls (3A), Piedmont boys (3A), Thomasville girls (4A), Columbia boys (4A), Brew Tech boys (4A), Lee-Huntsville boys (5A) and Baker boys (6A)

Years since a team not from the River Region represented the boys Class 6A Central (Southeast) Region. The last team was Auburn in 2005. Central-Phenix City is representing the boys 6A from Central Region this year.
