Faulkner finishes own tourney with win

Contributed After dropping both games on day one of the Faulkner Invitational, the Eagles finished strong with a 4-1 win over Spring Hill. Sophomore Missy Duke pitched the first four innings for Faulkner and gave up only two hits. She finished her run with a strikeout and allowed no hits. Junior Katy Wiggins took the circle for the final three innings and gave up three hits and one earned run while tallying five strikeouts. Haley Munroe and Eden Harris were both 2-for-4 and Munroe added an RBI. Shauna Suttle and Erin Pierce were both 2-for-3 with an RBI and Scottie Wilkes was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Courtney Barber was also 2-for-3. Extended play in a handful of the earlier contests bottlenecked the the afternoon and evening games. Faulkner’s scheduled game with Reinhardt was cancelled. The Eagles (2-3) will open conference play at home next Saturday with Brenau University. The doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. Other Day Two Results: No. 12 Shorter swept their weekend competition. The Hawks held on to defeat No. 23 SCAD in 10 innings 3-2 and later defeated No. 18 Mobile 3-2. No. 22 Auburn Montgomery also swept four games in the Invitational. The Senators trailed No. 23 SCAD 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh until senior Allie Bobo rocked a two-RBI double to deep right for the 5-4 victory. AUM later blasted No. 18 Mobile 8-1. After dropping two games yesterday, No. 6 William Carey thundered back with a pair of wins this afternoon. The Crusaders’ offense got ridiculous late in the contest and cruised on to a 20-2 thrashing. William Carey held strong against No. 16 Lee as well in the 6-3 win. Reinhardt defeated Spring Hill 3-0. |
