Todd Cherry had three hits and three RBI to lead Auburn University at Montgomery to a 9-1 win over Brewton-Parker College in Southern States Athletic Conference baseball action.

The game was close as AUM only led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but pushed across two runs with Cherry’s homerun scoring Bruce Alter in front of him.

AUM went on to add three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to open up the lead.

Sam Judah had two hits and also drove in two runs, while Brooks Glover, Anthony Kopacz and Will Sellers had the other RBI.

The Senators’ hitters jumped on BPC starter Joey Delgado (5-1) who entered the game with a 1.06 earned run average.  The homerun he allowed to Cherry was the first homerun he had given up all year.  Delgado pitched five innings allowing seven hits and seven runs, six earned, while striking out four.

Kyle Mitchell (2-1) had the best start of his short AUM career in picking up the win.  He went eight innings allowing only six hits and the one run, which was a solo homerun by Brian Hobbs in the fifth inning.  Mitchell also struck out eight batters.  Jared Fonseca came in and finished the game in the ninth with two strikeouts.

AUM moves to 11-14 overall and 4-6 in the conference while BPC falls to 19-8 overall and 4-3 in conference action.  The two teams will finish the three-game series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at noon.

CENTRAL, S.C.—The Auburn University at Montgomery Lady Senators softball team picked up two wins with a 3-1 and a 10-2 double-header sweep of Southern Wesleyan University.

Whitney Wyatt had two hits, including a two-run homerun to highlight the Lady Senators hitting attack.  AUM finished with 11 hits in the game.  Kacie Ryal had two hits and added an RBI, while Shea Driggers added two hits, including a RBI triple.

Danielle Ryan (8-2) picked up the win in game one allowing four hits and the lone run.  She finished the game with six strikeouts.

AUM managed three runs in the game the first coming in the second inning when Sara Allen’s triple scored Brandi Richards.  Richards then added a solo homerun in the fourth and AUM scored its final run in the fifth when Monica Hatcher knocked in Stacin Halverson who had walked earlier in the inning.

AUM moves to 19-8-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference.  SWU is now 6-16 overall and 1-7 in conference action.  The Lady Senators will finish their week-long road trip tomorrow with another conference double-header at Emmanuel College.  The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
