Benton died in a two-car accident on Alabama Hwy 167 Monday, near the Spring Hill community in Pike County. He was 18. Edgewood football coach and athletic director Bobby Carr said the loss was devastating to the Edgewood family. “This a tremendous loss for us,” Carr said. “Jacob was a good athlete and a fine young man that was well liked and respected. His life left a positive impression upon others. We will miss him greatly.” “He was basically a part of my family,” said teammate Bishop Harris. “We have known each other all our lives.” “He was an amazing kid,” Carr added. “He worked so hard to improve but he brought such a great demeanor to the team. We will miss him greatly.” Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Thelma Baptist Church in Wallsboro. Burial will be held afterward in the Friendship Methodist Church cemetery in Titus. |
