Faulkner sweeps Talladega in softball; Hilde low scorer at Badger Invitational

Contributed Faulkner posted 36 hits in a sweep of Talladega College, 10-1 and 12-0, in a doubleheader at the softball complex Tuesday. The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning of the opener and never looked back as they cruised to a 10-1 victory in five innings. Courtney Barber’s walk off two-run blast sealed the game for Faulkner. The Eagles’ offense was led by Scottie Wilkes who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two scored runs. Barber was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run and Haley Munroe was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jennifer Ellisor and Jessi Palmer were each 1-for-3 with an RBI and Shauna Suttle was 2-for-2, Eden Harris was 3-for-4 and Cynthia Batchelor was 2-for-3. Emily Jimmerson (1-4) struck out nine batters and gave up only three hits and a single earned run in just four innings of work to get the win. Missy Duke pitched the final inning and allowed two hits and tallied a strikeout. The Eagles blistered the Talladega defense with 16 more hits in just four innings, including a two-run shot by Harris in the third inning, in the second game. Harris and Palmer both had stellar games, each going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and had two runs and a score, respectively. Ellisor was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run and Erin Pierce was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a scored run. Wilkes and Rachel Reiswig were both 2-for-3 with an RBI had a one and two runs respectively. Munroe finished 2-for-3 with two runs. Samantha Belden (1-2) pitched all five innings for Faulkner and allowed only three hits, while securing six strikeouts and the shutout. Faulkner improves to 4-9 on the year (0-6 SSAC) and will head to Orange Beach this weekend for the Gulf Coast Classic. The Eagles will open the tournament with No. 13 University of Houston-Victoria at 9 a.m. on Friday. Hilde wins individual honors at Badger Invitational Faulkner sophomore Erik Hilde fired the lowest round of the day Tuesday to capture individual honors in the Badger Invitational here at the Spring Hill Golf Course. Hilde posted a final-round 72 for a 36-hole total of 150. The Eagles finished fourth in the 13-team event with a score 636. Spring Hill’s 617 was two shots better the runner-up Mobile. Lindenwood was third with a 626. Faulkner’s Jeff Stashuk fired a pair of 78s for a 156 total. Faulkner’s men’s and women’s teams compete this weekend in the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. |
