ATLANTA —- Six different players drove in multiple runs and the Huntingdon baseball team blew open a tie game with 10 runs in the seventh inning, as it cruised to a 17-4 victory over Emory on Thursday at Chappell Park.

The Hawks (9-4) took the lead for good with by plating 10 runs on only five hits in the seventh inning. In the frame, only four of the runs were earned runs, as the Eagles (5-6) committed a pair of critical errors.

Huntingdon made Emory pay for the miscues, as five different players picked up RBIs, including two each from senior Bryant Hall and freshman Austin White.

Hall finished with a team-best three runs batted in, while White, seniors Shawn Bezwiechin, Chad Green, and Chris Knight, as well as junior Cody Turner all posted two RBIs.

Senior Josh Bennefield scored a team-high four runs and has now scored 18 times in the past nine games. Fellow senior Kyle Eller added his eighth double of the season, doubling his total from all of last season.

On the mound, senior Alex Sanford kept the Eagles’ bats in check, allowing six hits and four runs in 6.0 innings of work. Sanford, who improved to 3-1 on the season, struck out 10 in the win.

Sophomore Caleb Cofield, junior Ryan Harrison and freshman Lucas Haynes each tossed scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory.

Brian Cournoyer took the loss for Emory, tossing just 0.2 innings, while allowing four hits and six runs. Andrew Cohn led the Eagles at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Huntingdon will return to action on Friday, when it hosts Rust College at 4 p.m.
