Combined Reports Alabama Christian Academy’s Costa Whitehead and Kevin Whorton had two goals each and Ian Sagstetter had one in the Eagles’ 5-2 victory over Montgomery Catholic in boys’ soccer on Tuesday. Backup goalkeep Colt Churchwell took the victory. ACA will face Elmore County on Thursday. Baseball games moved due to weather TUSCALOOSA - The Alabama-Samford baseball game schedule for Tuesday at Joe Lee Griffin Field in Birmingham was postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m. Alabama (5-0) will host the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. at Regions Park in Hoover. The game will not count towards the Southeastern Conference standings. Also, the Huntingdon baseball game with Emory, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been moved back a day and will now be played on Thursday. The Hawks and Eagles will throw the first pitch of the contest at 2 p.m. EST. Following the contest against Emory, Huntingdon will return home as it starts an eight-game homestand, by hosting Rust on Friday at 4 p.m. Auburn closes out history of Beard-Eaves Coliseum AUBURN - Auburn basketball (14-15, 5-9) plays host to Mississippi State (21-8, 9-5) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Central in the final game in the 42-year Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum history. The arena will be closed out the same way it began. Wally Tinker, who made the first basket at the Coliseum vs. LSU on Jan. 11, 1969, will shoot the final basket at the Coliseum following the game. The night will conclude with a highlight video of games spanning the history of the Coliseum. Lucas Hargrove, Brendon Knox, Johnnie Lett, DeWayne Reed and Tay Waller will be playing in their final home game on Wednesday. They will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. AUM’s Jones receives Army honor Auburn University at Montgomery women’s basketball player Nicole Jones has received the AUM Army Athletic Achievement Award. Jones is a sophomore majoring in Business Management and Marketing. She has been a solid performer both on and off the courts this season. She has worked with Angels for the Elderly, Make a Difference Day at the Children’s Center and has worked YMCA basketball camps. She has also traveled to the Milano Center on Martin Luther King day and read to the children there. “Nicole had done an extraordinary job for us this season,” head coach Dan Davis said. “She is continuously focused in practice and games, and works extremely hard on a daily basis. She has gone from getting minimal minutes to being one of our more consistent players in the starting line-up. She is our best defensive player in the guard position and has done a great job in shutting down the opponents leading guard.” |
