(Staff Photo) Combined Reports OPP – Starting pitcher Gavin Free went the distance allowing just two hits in Opp’s 5-0 win over St. James in Class 4A, Area 2 play on Thursday. Free had 12 strikeouts for the Bobcats (8-2). Will Olsey had both hits for the Trojans (5-7). Wilson Adams was the losing pitcher. He went five innings and gave up just one earned run. The two teams continue their series today with a doubleheader at St. James beginning at 4 p.m. LAMP softball wins Josie Russell struck out 11 in the Lady Golden Tigers’ 7-5 victory over Trinity in Class 3A, Area 5 action on Thursday. Victoria bye and Haley Jones each had two hits for LAMP (7-6, 1-0) while Lauren Keiffer led Trinity (6-2. 0-1) with two hits and three runs driven in. Madison Keith had three hits while Caroline Wilder and Harrison Roberts each had two for the Wildcats. Lauren Keiffer had two hits and three RBIs for Trinity and Madison Keith had three hits. Carver’s Shatavia Farris and Roquez Johnson along with Jeff Davis guard Jatoria Carter will represent the River Region next summer in the annual North-South basketball games in the 14th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition in Huntsville July 12-16. The coaches for the SOUTH GIRLS team are Charlie Shipp of Class 6A Final 48 participant Davidson and Eddie Jackson of Class 3A state champion Sumter County. Tony Stallworth of the Crenshaw County Board of Education will serve as administrative coach for the girls and boys teams. The two girls teams and two boys teams will square off in a Thursday doubleheader (July 15) at The University of Alabama-Huntsville’s Scogin Hall, beginning with the girls’ game at 5 p.m. The boys’ contest following at 7 p.m. Sports Week, which also includes in-state all-star games in volleyball, baseball, softball, football and girls and boys soccer, will feature clinics and special sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. An All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week. A highlight of Sports Week will be a Sportsmanship Banquet honoring all schools that have not had an ejection or fine during the 2009-10 school year.
