Tide’s Mitchell, Rebs’ Warren top SEC players for week

Contributed Ole Miss’ Chris Warren was named SEC Player of the Week after he averaged 26.5 points and 3.0 assists in wins over LSU and at Arkansas. The Rebels’ point guard finished one shy of his career high with 31 points in a 68-66 comeback win at Arkansas. He scored 20 points in the second half and helped Ole Miss erase an 11-point deficit with just over five minutes remaining, nailing a huge 3-pointer with 53 seconds left to give the Rebels their first lead of the contest. He scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting (5-of-7 3s) with five assists in a 72-59 win over LSU. Alabama’s Tony Mitchell was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in wins at South Carolina and over Auburn. Mitchell recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds at South Carolina. Eleven of his 13 points against USC were scored in the second half. Mitchell lead the Crimson Tide with 16 points in a win over intrastate rival Auburn. |
