PREP RECAP: ACA wins opener in key series; Edgewood win streak continues

Combined Reports HOLTVILLE - Alex Guilford scattered four hits and Cody Bell’s fielder’s choice scored Jordan Creel in Alabama Christian Academy’s 3-1 victory over Holtville in a key Class 4A, Area 5 game on Thursday. Creel and Ryan Johnson singled in the sixth inning and later scored to give ACA the lead. Dalton Raybon had an RBI single in the inning against Holtville starter Casey Antley. Guilford went the distance, striking out 11 to win for the eighth time this season. ACA will play host to Holtville on Saturday to complete the series. The Eagles (20-8, 5-0) need a win to clinch the regular-season title. while Holtville (22-8, 4-1) needs a sweep. Edgewood win streak reaches 13 ELMORE - Edgewood Academy won its 13th-straight game with a sweep of East Memorial, 11-1 and 7-2, on Thursday. Jackson Geddie threw a two-hitter and struck out seven to win the first game. John Mark Cosby was 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs driven in. Chase Thornton (2-0) picked up the win and was 2-for-2 with an RBI in the second game. Hunter Kilcrease had three hits with two RBIs. Trinity wins in soccer over ACA Jackson Fendley scored three times and had two assists to lead Trinity to a 6-1 victory over Alabama Christian. Sellers Jackson, Tyler Olsen and Mitchell Newell each scored for the Wildcats. Harden Spencer had an assist. |
