PREP ROUNDUP: MA girls win tennis sectional; LAMP soccer a win away from perfect regular season

Montgomery Academy took first place in the girls Class 1A-3A Section 2 tournament at O’Conner Tennis Center on Monday, earning 40 points and ahead of second-place Trinity, which finished with 23 points.

MA took five of six singles matches in the tournament finals and swept the doubles matches. Winners in the match against Trinity were Hollan Smith, Mary Elizabeth Massey, Gretchen Lee, Lee Ellen Bryan and Brittany Briddell. The doubles teams consisted of Smith-Massey, A.K. Parrish-Bryan and Wesley Wilson-Lee. K.K. Carlson was Trinity’s lone winner.

Both teams will play in the Class 1A-3A state tournament, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Lagoon Park.

Autauga takes second seed with win over Crenshaw

LUVERNE - Kenny Reaves homered  and Stewart Dawson had two hits to lift Autauga Academy to a 7-1 win over Crenshaw Christian in a one-game playoff for the AISA Class AA Region 1 standings.

Cody Parrott scattered four hits over seven innings to pick up the victory.

Autauga earns a first-round home game of the state playoffs beginning Friday. Crenshaw will travel to the Region 2 West second seed.

Playoff pairings will be announced later this week.

Another playoff game will be held on Tuesday when Macon-East Montgomery plays Glenwood at Lee-Scott Academy to determine the second seed.

ACA soccer completes season with win over Lee

Alabama Christian Academy’s soccer team finished the season with a 5-0 win over Robert E. Lee on Monday. Costa Whitehead had two goals while Kevin Whorton, Jack Bigbee and Ian Sagstetter scored one goal each.

ACA goalkeepers Evan Turner and Neil Michaud combined for the shutout.

ACA lost to Brew Tech 6-2 Saturday afternoon. Costa Whitehead scored both of ACA’s goals.

ACA finishes the season at 14-7.

LAMP soccer one step closer to a perfect regular season

John Russell had four goals in LAMP’s 7-1 win over Montgomery Catholic on Monday.

Russell added a pair of assists as LAMP closed out area play, remaining unbeaten (24-0, 18-0) in Class 1A-4A, Section 2 play.

Zane Shelton had the other three goals for LAMP. Sam Vargas, Michael Champion and Jordan Johnson had assists.

James Burke and Akhil Kaushik combined in the goal for the shutout.

LAMP travels to Dothan to close out the regular season.
