AISA all-star baseball players gear up for new game

(Staff Photo) Staff Report The top baseball players are set for the Alabama Independent School Association all-star baseball game but with an added twist this year. They will play somebody else. The top 18 seniors will face the best from the Georgia Independent School Association in a game on June 7 at Troy University’s Pace-Riddle Field. “It’s going to be special,” Edgewood and Alabama coach Bobby Carr said. “It’ll be something the kids will never forget and hopefully it’ll be the start of something special between Georgia and Alabama.” Carr will take two players with him - Bishop Harris and Hunter Kilcrease. Three players from Macon-East Montgomery are scheduled to participate including Colton Henderson, Bryant Still and Chris Floyd. Keeny Reeves will represent Autauga Academy. Carr will be joined on the coaching staff by Scott Tubbs of Macon-East Montgomery. But Carr said there will be very little coaching involved. “When you’re coaching an all-star team, they’re all-stars for a reason,” he said. “Sometimes, you can do too much coaching. You just need to step back and let them play.” Other players on the AISA team include pitchers Sam Kelly of Southern, Harris, Will Starling of Pike and Todd Burkett of Fort Dale; outfielders Jeremy Tulledge of Tuscaloosa, Sklyar Murphy of Glenwood and Henderson; catchers Tyler Bozeman of Lowndes and Floyd; infielders Willis Webb of Monroe, Kirk Lewis of Pickens, Trey Walters, Ross Hixon and Justin McGoughlin of Pike, Kilcrease, Reeves, Still and Wood Collins of Marengo. On the same day, the AISA will holds its annual baseball all-star games and will involve juniors. The teams are divided as American and National teams. Players include: American League: pitchers Chase Davidson and Bryant Fikes of Pickens, Matt Wallace of Marengo and Connor Thorpe of Morgan; catchers Travis Jean of Autauga and Chris Sammons of Marengo; outfielders Corbin Johnson of South Choctaw, Jason Gates of Clarke Prep and Zach Mayhew of Macon-East Montgomery; and infielders Wes Powell and Stewart Terry of Tuscaloosa, Brandon Veach and Tyler Armstead of Macon-East Montgomery, Marcus Hardin of Evangel Christian, Chris Petranik of Autauga and Rasha Hira of Southern. The coaches are Brach White of Pickens and Jonathan Lindsey of Marengo. National League: pitchers Michael D’arville of Crenshaw, Anderson Casey of Lowndes, Tyler Hanson of Edgewood and Spencer Riley of Glenwood; catchers Keaton Aldridge of Glenwood, Logan Smith of Monroe and Tate Welch of Crenshaw; outfielders Sam Carroll of Pike, Sam Vermilea of Monroe and Chase Ward of Lowndes; and infielders Keaton Maher of Escambia, John Bullen of Coosa Valley, Carson Bowers of Glenwood, Tyler Lowe of Lowndes and Tanner Smith of Monroe. The coaches are Tim Smith of Cornerstone, Brad Johnson of Wilcox and Bobby Hughes of Coosa Valley The AISA softball all-stars will play the following day at Lagoon Park Softball Complex including of a juniors game at 6 p.m. and a seniors game at 8 p.m. |
