AISA SOFTBALL UPDATE: Lowndes stays alive; PCA eliminated

(Staff Photo) Staff Report Paige Hill scattered four hits and M. McCurdy hit a two-run homer in the second inning in Lowndes Academy’s 5-2 victory over Edgewood Academy in the first round of the Alabama Independent School Association state softball tournament at Lagoon Park on Friday. Hill did not have a strikeout in the win but coaxed 10 ground balls from Edgewood hitters. Nicole Conway had two hits and scored a run for Lowndes. McCurdy scored a second run in the sixth after being hit by a pitch. She scored on an error later in the inning. Lottie Moore single and scored in the sixth inning when Edgewood scored both of its runs. Hannahlee Harris scored the Wildcats other run after reaching on an error. Edgewood followed with a 12-2 win over Crenshaw Christian in an elimination loser’s bracket game. The Lady Wildcats scored five first inning runs on just two hits. Kaetien Brown was the winning pitcher, scattering three hits. She struck out three. Harris and Chandler Thornton each scored three runs. Harris had three hits while Thornton had two. Mallory Garmon added two doubles and two runs. Lowndes dropped a 5-0 decision to Marengo Academy before eliminating Escambia Academy, 11-0 in the final game of the evening. The Lady Rebels will face either Edgewood or Lakeside on Saturday in another elimination round. Prattville Christian was eliminated in the Class AAA tourney, losing to Pike Liberal Arts, 14-3, in the loser’s bracket. The Panthers had lost earlier to Hooper Academy, 7-2. |
