LOCAL SIGNINGS: Phillips, Taylor sign scholarships

(Photo contributed) Staff Report Prattville Christian second baseman Trent Phillips recently signed a baseball scholarship with Faulkner University, becoming the first baseball player to sign a college scholarship from the school. Phillips hit .430 with 23 runs scored. He set a school record in hits with 37. This came after he sat out of baseball the previous year to concentrate on basketball. Taylor signs with Tuskegee LAMP senior Jay Taylor has signed a scholarship to play basketball at Tuskegee University. Taylor led the Golden Tigers in scoring with 16 points and rebounding with seven per game last season. As a junior, he was part of the school’s first winning team that went to the Class 3A Final Four. Taylor says he plans to major in chemical engineering. Colton signs with West Alabama Macon-East Montgomery senior Colton Henderson signed a baseball scholarship with West Alabama. Henderson hit .492 with 10 home runs and 64 RBIs as a senior. He was a two-time All-AISA selection. As a pitcher, he was 17-6 last season and led the Knights to the Class AAA semifinals for a second-straight year.
