Evans leads Dirtbags; Grays fall in District play

OMAHA, Neb. - The Montgomery Dirtbags opened the single-elimination tournament play in the Omaha Champions Village Tournament in Omaha, Neb. with an 11-4 win over the Mundelein (Ill.) Missiles on Friday.
 
Grayson Evans pitched a complete game and only allowed one hit, while striking out seven.  At the plate, Evans helped himself by going 3-for-3 with  two doubles, a home run and four RBIs.  Coleman Fleming added two doubles and an RBI.  Also, Thomas Helms had a two-run double.

The Dirtbags ended the six game pool play with a 4-2 record.

In Thursday’s action the Dirtbags started off by defeating Armour Baseball of Denver, Col., 1-0.  Dalton Hill hurled a complete game one hitter.  The only hit of the game of Hill was a bunt single that came in the bottom of the sixth  inning.  Hill struck out 4.  Jalon long batted in Mark McGowan for the only run of the game.

In the second game of the day, the Dirtbags fell to the Oro Valley (Ariz.) Wildcats, 7-2.

The Dirtbags ended pool play by defeating the Mundelein (Ill.) Missiles, 6-3.  Mark McGowan pitched the full six innings striking out 3.  Tyler Britton and MJ Galloway each had 2 RBIs.

The Dirtbags take on the the Houston Rough Riders Saturday at 12 in a quarterfinal matchup.

Beauregard drops Montgomery Gray Angels

TALLASSEE - Beauregard jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and held on for a 10-8 victory over Montgomery Gray at the Angels Distric t5 tournament at Tallassee Thursday. 

Miller Johnson was 3-for-3 on the night for Montgomery Gray, including two doubles and a triple. 

Virgina Williams recorded two RBIs, while Johnson, Josie Blanks and Caroline Baker had one RBI each for Montgomery Gray. 

Kayanna McKenzie allowed three runs over 2 2/3 innings.  With the loss, Montgomery Gray will play the loser of Tallassee and Roanoke Friday.
