Contributed Despite building an early 5-1 lead, the Montgomery Biscuits (45-37) came out on a the wrong end of a wild, back-and-forth game, losing 10-7 to the Birmingham Barons (30-54) Monday at Riverwalk. After Emeel Salem tied the game at 7-7 with a solo-shot in the bottom of the eighth, Sergio Espinosa (0-1) gave up three Barons runs on four consecutive one-out hits, keyed by a two-run Christian Marrero single. The Biscuits threatened in the bottom-half, getting a single from Leslie Anderson and a double from Henry Wrigley to start the inning, but Greg Infante (2) got a pair of strikeouts, and after walking John Matulia to load the bases, got Shawn O’Malley to bounce out to end the game. The night started out in promising fashion for the Biscuits, answering a Barons first-inning run with three in the first and two in the second. But the Barons pushed across three in the fifth to make it 5-4, and after the Biscuits added insurance in the sixth to go up 6-4, rallied for three against Matt Gorgen to retake the lead in the eighth. Heath Rollins started for the Biscuits, and allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits over 4.2 in a no-decision. Anthony Carter (1-4), despite giving up the game-tying run to Salem, took the win. Birmingham starter Jacob Rasner allowed five runs on five hits and five walks over four innings in a no-decision. Wrigley, Leslie Anderson, and Salem all recorded three hits for the Biscuits. Salem, who was 1-for his last-21 entering the game, reached all five times and finished a triple short of the cycle. Jake McGee will toss for the Biscuits in the final game of the series on Tuesday at 7:05 against Birmingham Brandon Hynick. |
