HUNTSVILLE - The North All-stars slugged four home runs in game No.1 Wednesday to beat the South 11-0 and followed with a 12-1 victory to sweep All-Star Week softball doubleheader Wednesday night at Huntsville’s Kiwanis Softball Complex.

Game 1: North 11, South 0
Austin’s Lauren Lindsey, named the North MVP, poked a three-run homer to ignite a nine-run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning of game No. 1 as the North won by the mercy rule in five. She also slugged a three-run homer in game No. 2 to erase a 1-0 South lead in the top of the third inning as her team went on to plate eight runs in the top of the fourth to complete the sweep by winning in five innings again.

Danae Hays of Mortimer Jordan also slugged a two-run homer and Pisgah’s Shelby Holley followed with a solo blast in game one’s nine-run fourth frame. Kaitlyn Griffith of Cherokee County pounded a two-run blast in the first inning for the North.

Three North pitchers combined to pitch the two-hit shutout in the opener. Starter Tori Edwards of Sparkman started and struck out three to get the win.

Game 2: North 12, South 1

South catcher McKenzie Kilpatrick of Alabama Christian gave the South fans something to cheer about very quickly in game two, a long solo homer to left in the bottom of the first inning for a quick 1-0 lead. She finished the doubleheader 2-of-3 with the South’s only RBI.

The North got its bats going after Lindsey’s second homer of the day and finished with 10 hits. Lindsey finished with two homers and six RBIs. Natalie Matos of Huntsville had two hits and two RBIs for the North with Shelbi Smith of Sumiton Christian and Blair Johnson of Mortimer Jordan collecting a double and RBI.

Coaching the North, now 20-6 in the series, were Travis Barnes of Cherokee County and Brett Nave of East Limestone. South coaches were Bobby Cook of Central-Phenix City and Jerry Goodson of Ariton.
