Huntingdon sophomore cross country student-athlete Rachael Phillips has earned one of six available positions on the United States Junior National Racewalk Team, after finishing fifth at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships at historic Drake Stadium.

Competing in a 12-member field, the Lyndonville, N.Y., native posted a time of 57:53.41 on the 10K track, finishing less than a minute and a half behind the event champion Nicolette Sorensen’s time of 56:25.49.

Phillips will be joined on the women’s team by Sorensen, Abby Dunn (56:58.16), Rachel Zoyhofski (57:46.85), Maite Moscoso (57:52.81) and Reini Brickson (58:13.24). Jennifer Thuotte, who finished seventh in the event in Des Moines, was selected as the team’s alternate.

The men’s team will consist of Trevor Barron (42:58.62), Tyler Sorensen (43:53.39), Matthew Forgues (47:45.51), Josua Haertel (47:47.42), Alejandro Chavez (48:14.66) and Evan Vincent (50:24.59). John Randall (52:38.65) was selected as the alternate.

The U.S. Junior National Team, which is coached by Huntingdon Cross Country coach Nate Rucker, will compete in a dual meet on July 30th against the Canadian Junior National Team in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The women will race a 5K distance, while the men will compete on a 10K distance.

The dual meet will be held at the University of Toronto and will be held in conjunction with the Canadian Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Additional information about the meet can be found at http://www.usatf.org/events/2010/USAvsCANJrRWMatch.
