Montgomery Biscuits starting pitcher Alex Torres has been named to the World Roster for the 2010 XM All-Star Futures Game to be played at Angels Stadium in Anaheim on Sunday at 5:05 CT.

Now in its 12th year, the Futures Game features the top prospects in all of baseball separated into World and U.S. rosters of 25 players each. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN2, MLB.tv, and XM-175.

The Biscuits Opening Night starter this season, Torres has paced the starting staff all year, leading the Biscuits with eight wins. He’s been among the league-leaders in strikeouts and ERA all-season, and was recently named a Southern League All-Star. In his 6th pro season, the 22 year old from Valencia, Venezuela came to the Rays last season in the deal that sent Scott Kazmir to the Angels. Prior to the 2010 season, Torres was named the 8th-best prospect in the Rays farm system by Baseball America.

Torres becomes the third Biscuit in team-history to play in the game, with Evan Longoria suiting up for the U.S. squad in 2007, and Desmond Jennings last season. Both Jennings and former Biscuit Jeremy Hellickson will play against Torres in this season’s Futures Game.

He’ll be joining fellow Southern League stars Brett Jackson (TEN), Dee Gordon (CHA), Brett Lawrie (HVL), Mike Minor (MIS), Ozzie Martinez (JAX), Alex Liddi (WTN), and Carlos Peguero (WTN). He’s one of two Southern League pitchers (Minor) selected.
