Baker takes positives in Faulkner’s first scrimmage

Contributed Faulkner head football coach Gregg Baker was please with his team’s performance during its first intersquad scrimmage of the year Saturday. He admits that improvement is needed in various areas, but expects that at this stage. “We’ve got some things we need to work on and we got a better look at that today,” Baker said. “The offense moved the ball really well between the twenties, but struggled in the red zone. We can’t do all that work to move the ball down the field and not punch it in. We have to capitalize on those opportunities.” The coaching staff was impressed he work of the offensive line as well as the quarterbacks, who made good reads that helped spearhead the offense. The defense was fairly consistent throughout, but came up big on the goal line. “We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us,” Baker said, “but this gave us a good starting point for fine tuning everything.” The Eagles will get back to work on Monday in preparation for their scrimmage against LaGrange College at 12:30 p.m. next Saturday in LaGrange, Ga. Faulkner opens its season Sept. 11 at Cramton Bowl against Birmingham Southern College at 11 a.m. |
