PRATTVILLE - Edgewood Academy ‘s 43-7 thumping of East Memorial Christian Academy (EMCA) Thursday night is the perfect tune up for the Wildcats before they begin region play next week.

The outcome was never in doubt as Edgewood rolled up 36 points before the first quarter was in the books at Prattville’s Stanley Jensen Stadium.

“We didn’t do everything right,” Edgewood coach Bobby Carr said. “We didn’t get to the line quick enough and we were slow to get some plays off. Those are things we can fix.”

Edgewood (AISA Class AA) was led by the highly proficient Matt Moore, a senior quarterback and kicker that easily proved he was in a class by himself. Moore connected with Collier McConnell in the first three minutes of the game from 43 yards out and then ran 15 yards for the second Edgewood score about a minute later.

EMCA (AISA Class AAA) gave the visitors a couple of points with a safety, which was followed by another Moore TD pass to McConnell when the first quarter was at the midway point. Moore also kicked the extra points and drove three kickoffs well into the end zone as exclamation points.  He connected with Rod Boykin for a 43-yard aerial strike.

Later, Boykin returned a punt 47 yards for a touchdown to round out the first quarter scoring at 36-0 Edgewood.

Matt Ford had a big night rushing for the Wildcats and scored the lone touchdown in the second quarter breaking four tackles in his 44 yard scoring effort.

EMCA scored with 42 seconds remaining in the game on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Luke Otstot to Drew Montgomery.

Edgewood had a pair of touchdowns called back in the second half. Jesse Benton lost a 63-yard scoring run to a holding call and Sam Coleman’s 90-yard punt return was called back due to clipping.

Moore said there were some blocking assignments missed but overall the offense clicked well.

Edgewood will play host to Evangel Christian in its season home opener next week. EMCA will face Bessemer Academy on the road.
