Defensive back Brent Collins breaks up a pass to wide out Deonta Allen On Thursday, they got a real look at 11-on-11 action and see who’s ready to move into a starting roll. “Today’s practice went really well,” said head coach Gregg Baker. “We worked on our shallow game some and our screen plays and it was interesting to see who came ready to play.” Baker said that both sides of the ball looked good today and that the team is further along now than where they were at this point last year. “I’ve seen a lot of good things in just four days,” Baker added. “Our quarterbacks have been reading better than they did in the spring and our veterans on defense have really been strong.” Returners Trey Martin and Zach Tribble along with Seth Baker currently sit atop the quarterback pool and newcomer Tanileu Mose, a linebacker out of California, has been a standout on defense. “We’ve had several players, especially some of our younger guys, really step it up in practice,” Baker said. “There’s a lot of competition going on and that’s a good thing.” Faulkner will go in full pads again on Friday for one last day of preparation for Saturday’s scrimmage. The event will be held 8 a.m. at John Mark Stallings Field on campus and is open to the public. |
