Contributed The Huntingdon football team completed its first scrimmage of the preseason with a 2 1/2 hour morning practice at Charles Lee Field on Wednesday. Practice started with fundamentals before moving into heavy scrimmage mode. The offensive unit came out and spread the ball around to a number of players. “We came out slow, but picked up the tempo as the scrimmage progressed,” head coach Mike Turk said. “The offense did a good job of distributing the ball today.” Turk pointed out the work of running back Trevor Manuel who “had several good rushes this morning and looked good in the backfield,” Turk said. Turk also said the tempo gave his defense problems early. “The tempo got to the defense early in the scrimmage, but the players did an excellent job of making adjustments and started reacting,” said Turk. Kirk Johnson stood out on the defense. “Kirk did a great job on reacting to the ball and making a lot of tackles today. I’m most proud of the defense for showing their competitiveness and making plays inside the red-zone to force field goal attempts,” Turk said.
