Lady Hornets beat Faulkner in soccer
|
Contributed The Alabama State Lady Hornets struck early in the first half and played strong defense throughout to secure a 1-0 win over Faulkner at John Mark Stallings field on Thursday. “I’m very disappointed,” said head coach Jeff Ireland. “We’ve got to do some more training. We just had too many opportunities to score and didn’t. This game showed us where we’re at as a squad and what we have to do.” The Lady Eagles outshot the Hornets 22-5 but the Hornets were able to land one of three on frame. Faulkner had 12 attacks on goal with no results. Lisa Gallea had a pair of saves and allowed the single goal in the first half for Faulkner. Maressa Gordon had 12 saves and the shutout for ASU (1-3). “ASU got the goal and then defended well and put pressure on us,” Ireland added. “You have to give them credit, they came to play and we didn’t and they earned the win.” Faulkner (2-1) will take on conference rival Brewton-Parker in Mt. Vernon, Ga., on Saturday. The game is set for 2 p.m. |
