Although he was hundreds of miles away from the Mercedes-Benz Super Dome on Monday, Mike Gundy was enjoying what he considered a win-win situation.

With his Oklahoma State Cowboys sitting at home, watching Alabama end any talk of the greatest team in history, a.k.a. LSU, Gundy could prepare his short answer to the question that would be asked by someone not too long after the final play of the BCS Championship Game.

Would the Cowboys have fared any better against either one of the two title contenders?

Alabama got 54 first-place votes in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll of the 2011 season, ending any talk of a split national champion.

NEW ORLEANS — Revenge served.

A staunch defensive effort, combined with a record-setting night from kicker Jeremy Shelley, propelled the University of Alabama football team to its 14th national championship with a 21-0 victory over LSU Monday night in the BCS National Championship Game.

The Crimson Tide’s defense held LSU to just 92 total yards and five first downs as Defensive Player of the Game Courtney Upshaw and Jerrell Harris each had seven tackles. As a unit, the defense had 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and an interception.

Time for talk is over. Kickoff is upon us.

It is Gameday in New Orleans with the BCS Championship game set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.Both LSU and Alabama have spent the last five days in the Big Easy.

As of early Monday morning, the game was a pick ‘em according to experts. The weather outside the Mercedes Benz Superdome is expected to be wet and rainy but it will be 72 degrees and dry inside.

Former Tallassee High and Troy University standout Derrick Ansley has begun working on George O’Leary’s Central Florida staff as defensive backs coach. Ansley was a graduate assistant and defensive assistant at Alabama for the past two seasons.

LSU and Alabama arrive in New Orleans today to begin preparations for the 2012 BCS Championship Game, scheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
