In only 24 hours the world has been turned upside down in Class 6A, Region 4

With the announcement that Wetumpka will be forced to forfeit all five victories for use of an ineligible player, the race for the playoffs took a different turn this week. Jeff Davis benefited from the announcement and now takes the fourth spot in the region trailing Prattville, G.W. Carver and Benjamin Russell as the playoff teams.

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of October 6-7-8. Sam Coleman from Edgewood Academy is the Private School Player of the Week and Jerry Tyus from Marbury High School is the Public School Player of the Week. Both players will be honored at the Club’s next meeting on Oct. 18. Chad Gibbs, the author of “God and Football: Faith and Fanaticism in the SEC” will be the featured speaker.

The River Region is still abuzz over the huge upset pulled by the Opelika Bulldogs last week at Prattville.

The Lions lost, 16-14, on a last-second field goal. Now, the move back into region play along with the rest of the teams in AHSAA as the second half of region play begins.

Teams in the River Region (AHSAA) take a break from region play this week but several games feature old rivalries, a few of which date back to the early 1900s.

Not to the halfway point, the Class 6A, Region 4 race is becoming wild and wacky… just like last year.

The high school football season reaches the fourth week (third week in region play) and already, upsets are making the race for the playoffs in the biggest classification hard to predict. With Jeff Davis winning on Thursday and G.W. Carver and Sidney Lanier both pulling upsets last week, the 2-4 seeds will probably come down to the final week.
