PREP CAPSULES: Wetumpka-Stanhope highlight final week of regional play

Staff Report
(Oct. 22, 2010)

It is rare that when Wetumpka and Stanhope Elmore meet, one team is set up for the playoffs while the other needs a win to keep its hopes alive.

Such is the case on Friday when the two renew their storied rivalry at Foshee-Henderson Stadium in Millbrook.

PREP CAPSULES: Trinity-T.R. Miller headline big week

Staff Report
(Oct. 15, 2010)

T.R. Miller and Trinity have not met much over the years. With this being the first year the two have shared the same region, there was plenty of anticipation of the matchup prior to the season.

That anticipation has been rewarded with a key game on Friday at Boykin Field.

PREP CAPSULES: Second-half regional play enters with October

Staff Report
(Oct. 1, 2010)

October arrives and prep teams in the River Region begin the climb in the standings looking for a berth in the playoffs.

Regional play resumes in the AHSAA this week with key games in several classifications. Already, Carver and Wetumpka have squared off to decide first place in Class 6A, Region 4. Other teams in the region such as Jeff Davis and Prattville, find themselves looking for a win to inch closer to a playoff spot.

PREP CAPSULES: Old rivalries dominate non-region schedule

Staff Report
(Sept. 24, 2010)

Teams in the AHSAA get a break from region play this week but that doesn’t take away from many "rival" games outside playoff contention contests. For a few communities, this week’s games are almost as important as those that count toward playoffs

PREP CAPSULES: Wetumpka looks to stay perfect

Staff Report
(Sept. 17, 2010)

One week away from the midpoint of the regular season, regional games already have implications on the playoff picture.

Several teams such as Prattville, Trinity need wins this week to maintain chances to repeat as regional champs. Others, such as Alabama Christian and St. James, are in must-win situations to keep playoff hopes intact.

PREP CAPSULES: Tallassee-Eufaula headlines second week in region play

Staff Report
(Sept. 10, 2010)

Region play in Week 2 provided plenty of drama and an upset or two. What will happen in Week 3?

Here’s a breakdown of the top games in the River Region for the third week of the season.

ELMORE - It was nothing more than a workout, a scrimmage with a few hard hits and that’s all.

Edgewood Academy (AISA Class AA) drilled region foe Evangel Christian Academy, 59-0, Friday night. The win improved the Wildcats to 2-0 and 1-0 in the region. The win gave Edgewood a combined advantage of 102-7 in its first two games.

PREP CAPSULES: Coaching debuts dominate Week 1

Staff Report
(August 27, 2010)

Week 1 of the high school football season has arrived (with due respect to the handful of games played in the AISA last week.) In comes new regions, new classifications for some, and some interesting openers, particularly a few that feature teams playing for the first time.

The week ushers in new coaches at six different schools in the River Region.

Each week, River Region Sports will break down the top matchups of the week and pick a winner in all games involving teams from the area.
