It is rare that when Wetumpka and Stanhope Elmore meet, one team is set up for the playoffs while the other needs a win to keep its hopes alive.
Such is the case on Friday when the two renew their storied rivalry at Foshee-Henderson Stadium in Millbrook.

T.R. Miller and Trinity have not met much over the years. With this being the first year the two have shared the same region, there was plenty of anticipation of the matchup prior to the season.
That anticipation has been rewarded with a key game on Friday at Boykin Field.

Teams in the AHSAA get a break from region play this week but that doesn’t take away from many "rival" games outside playoff contention contests. For a few communities, this week’s games are almost as important as those that count toward playoffs

Week 1 of the high school football season has arrived (with due respect to the handful of games played in the AISA last week.) In comes new regions, new classifications for some, and some interesting openers, particularly a few that feature teams playing for the first time.
The week ushers in new coaches at six different schools in the River Region.
Each week, River Region Sports will break down the top matchups of the week and pick a winner in all games involving teams from the area.
