It’s a feeling Gregg Baker knows all to well. And dealing with it never gets any easier.
Faulkner’s head football coach was told late Monday about another tragedy involving one of his players. University officials informed Baker during practice that freshman quarterback Casey Carpenter’s father had just died in a traffic accident in north Mississippi. After practice, he and Casey’s uncle delivered the heart-breaking news.

The Alabama State University Hornets will hold its final scrimmage game of the preseason Saturday at 9 a.m. at Hornets Stadium.
The scrimmage will culminate an 18-day preseason practice schedule that included several two-a-day practices and two scrimmages.
Faulkner head football coach Gregg Baker was happy with the way his players completed their first full week of practice. On Friday, the Eagles incorporated drills and scrimmage sets that allowed more repetitions for the younger players and coaches were impressed by some of the incoming talent heading into Saturday’s intersquad scrimmage.

It was hard to determine exactly why Faulkner head football coach Gregg Baker was smiling following the Eagles’ first full squad practice Monday morning. It could have been the condition of his football team, which has more talented experience than ever before. Or it could have been because it was the first full workout at John Mark Stallings Field, the Eagles’ new sprint-turfed facility that will one day host team’s home football games.
