Daphne running back T.J. Yeldon was named the 30th recipient of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Football Award Wednesday at the ASWA’s annual Player of the Year Awards luncheon hosted by Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association at the Alabama Activity Center.

Steve Bailey has been named the director of sales and marketing for the Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department of Leisure Services.. Troy junior defensive end Jonathan Masaquoi announced that he will enter the 2012 National Football League Draft and forgo his senior year of eligibility with the Trojans… Auburn quarterback Barrett Trotter announced Monday that he’ll forgo his final season of eligibility to focus on a career off the field.

The University of Alabama will celebrate the Crimson Tide football team’s 2011 National Football Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The event will feature the Crimson Tide football team and head football coach Nick Saban. The celebration will last approximately one hour and admission is free.

Huntingdon seniors Willie McDowell, Cody Pearcy and Keith Anthony each enjoyed their first experience in an all-star college football game in December.
On Monday, the three will have a chance to play in another all-star game — the Hansen Bowl.
Trent Richardson played his final game in a Crimson Tide uniform on Monday. He announced on Thursday that he would forgoe his senior hear and enter the NFL Draft.

TUSCALOOSA – Alabama junior cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and junior running back Trent Richardson announced Thursday that they will be entering the 2012 National Football League Draft. In addition, junior linebacker Dont’a Hightower has decided he will also declare for the draft.

Alabama got 54 first-place votes in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll of the 2011 season, ending any talk of a split national champion.

NEW ORLEANS — Revenge served.
A staunch defensive effort, combined with a record-setting night from kicker Jeremy Shelley, propelled the University of Alabama football team to its 14th national championship with a 21-0 victory over LSU Monday night in the BCS National Championship Game.
The Crimson Tide’s defense held LSU to just 92 total yards and five first downs as Defensive Player of the Game Courtney Upshaw and Jerrell Harris each had seven tackles. As a unit, the defense had 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and an interception.

Time for talk is over. Kickoff is upon us.
It is Gameday in New Orleans with the BCS Championship game set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.Both LSU and Alabama have spent the last five days in the Big Easy.
As of early Monday morning, the game was a pick ‘em according to experts. The weather outside the Mercedes Benz Superdome is expected to be wet and rainy but it will be 72 degrees and dry inside.
