As of Wednesday, the landscape of the Alabama High School Athletic Association has changed.
On Wednesday, the AHSAA officially released its new classifications for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 calendar years. The news created a stir for many of the schools in the River Region.
Several schools moved into new classifications while others have new regional and area rivals.

It’s a new week and a new life for teams that reached the post season.
Both the AHSAA and AISA playoffs open on Friday after plenty of fireworks in the northern half of the state. After three court orders, the Class 6A north bracket is settled with Clay-Chalkville out and Gadsden City back in the playoffs.

With the second seed in the Class 6A playoffs on the line, Jeremy Johnson and his G.W. Carver teammates had plenty of incentive prior to Thursday’s game against Benjamin Russell.

Both the G.W. Carver Wolverines and the Benjamin Russell Wildcats were enjoying a solid season prior the halfway point. Now, with only one game left to play in Class 6A, Region 4, both teams are looking for a spark.
