PRACTICE NOTES: Tide, Tigers move closer to Game Week; Hawks scrimmage

TUSCALOOSA – The Alabama football team practiced for two hours in full pads on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.  It was the fall’s 21st training session as the Crimson Tide continues to prepare for the September 4 season opener against San Jose State in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

AUBURN - The Auburn football team practiced for two hours Wednesday evening behind the Athletics Complex. With less than two weeks before the first game of the season, the focus of practice is turning to scout team work and game preparation.

The Huntingdon football team battled each other for the second scrimmage of the fall at Charles Lee Field on Wednesday afternoon, and Coach Turk wasn’t pleased with the performance.

Cloudy skies provided a cooler setting for Huntindgon College’s first day in full pads of the season. The Hawks completed a two-hour workout Monday morning.

Huntingdon women’s basketball coach Buzz Phillips has announced the addition of 12 newcomers who have completed their intent to enroll paperwork and have committed to play for the Lady Hawks during the upcoming season.

Huntingdon senior men’s golfer Chase Blaich has earned an opportunity to compete in the 2010 U.S. Amateur Golf Championships, which will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., from Aug. 23-29, following a two-round total of 144 at a qualifying event at the par 72, 7,159 yard Camp Creek Golf Club earlier this week.

Anthony named preseason A-A

Following a sophomore campaign in which he set new single-season school records for interceptions, total tackles and solo tackles, Huntingdon junior Keith Anthony has been named to the D3Football.com Preseason All-America Second Team, the website announced on Thursday.

Hawks golfer named to golf scholar team

Huntingdon junior women’s golfer Kaitlin Rozof has been named the first player in the program’s history to earn membership on the All-American Scholar Team, the National Golf Coaches Association announced earlier this week.

Following its first appearance in the postseason and a record-tying eight victories in 2009, the Huntingdon football team has earned its first ranking in a preseason poll after being ranked 23rd in the USA Today Sports Weekly Football Preview Special Edition.

Huntingdon sophomore cross country student-athlete Rachael Phillips has earned one of six available positions on the United States Junior National Racewalk Team, after finishing fifth at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships at historic Drake Stadium.

Huntingdon sophomore cross country runner Rachael Phillips has qualified for the 10 kilometer Racewalk event at the United States Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at the home of the Drake Relays, historic Drake Stadium, from June 23-27.
