Ansley accepts position on Saban’s staff

Following a five-year stint on the coaching staff of the Huntingdon football program, Derrick Ansley has accepted a position with the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

Ansley, who coached defensive backs for five seasons and served as the Hawks’ Recruiting Coordinator for three years, will join the Crimson Tide as a graduate assistant and work specifically with the secondary.

McClure pitches no hitter in Lady Hawks’ win

Freshman Melissa McClure needed just 57 pitches to toss the first perfect game in her collegiate career and lead the Huntingdon softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Rust College on Thursday at the Huntingdon Softball Field.

ATLANTA - Seniors Scott Holloway and Alex Sanford each tossed their second straight complete game to lead the Huntingdon baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Oglethorpe on Tuesday at Anderson Field. The Hawks (19-4) took game one of the contest 7-5, while winning the finale 6-1… Alabama needed a ninth-inning comeback to beat Minnesota… Auburn had little trouble with Alabama A&M… Troy held off North Florida.

The Huntingdon baseball team swept a doubleheader from Blackburn College on Saturday, taking game one 13-0 and game two 19-0, at Neal Posey Field.

With the sweep, the Hawks improved to 16-4 on the season and have now won eight straight games.

The Huntingdon men’s tennis team earned its first Great South Athletic Conference victory of the season, defeating Piedmont 8-1 on Saturday.

Huntingdon added to participants in AUM tennis tourney

Auburn University at Montgomery will host the 2010 AUM Spring Tennis Invitational Friday and Saturday.  The matches will begin at 9 a.m. at both the Lagoon Park Tennis Complex and at the AUM Tennis Complex.  The second round of matches will begin at 2 p.m.

Because of bad weather, the Huntingdon Lady Hawks will participate in the tournament at Lagoon Park.

The senior arms of Scott Holloway and Alex Sanford helped the Huntingdon baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday, as the Hawks took game one, 3-1, before winning the nightcap, 9-3, at Neal Posey Field.

CLARKSVILLE, Ga. —- The Huntingdon women’s golf team moved up a spot in the standings to finish fifth, after carding a final-round score of 379 at the Piedmont Spring Invitational on Tuesday.

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.  – The Alabama baseball team used a pair of two-out rallies to post a 6-2 series-opening win over the College of Charleston on chilly, breezy night at Patriots Point Stadium.

AUBURN - Down by four runs heading to the bottom of the seventh, Auburn scored eight times on seven hits, a walk and two hit-batters in the bottom half of the frame to rally for a 14-9 win over Miami (Ohio) on Friday night at Plainsman Park.

Seniors Bryant Hall and Kyle Eller each drove in three runs to lead the Huntingdon baseball team to an 11-1 victory over Rust on Friday.

Brandon Chastain hit a grand slam and finished the game with five RBI to lead fourth-ranked Southern Polytechnic State University to a 12-3 win over Auburn University at Montgomery.

ATLANTA - Six different players drove in multiple runs and the Huntingdon baseball team blew open a tie game with 10 runs in the seventh inning, as it cruised to a 17-4 victory over Emory on Thursday at Chappell Park.
