Vosel named Montgomery Academy baseball coach

After three years of waiting in the wings, Stephen Vosel will finally get his opportunity.

Montgomery Academy athletic director Gary Nelson made an announcement on Thursday that Vosel, an assistant under head coach Kenny Jackson for the past three years, will take over as head baseball coach for the Eagles as Jackson steps down from his position.

Trinity, MA win girls soccer titles

HUNTSVILLE - Trinity Presbyterian tied the Girls Class 4A/5A State Championship match with Guntersville with just 2:29 left in regulation, 1-1, then weathered two overtime periods and outscored the Wildcats 4-3 in the sudden death shootout to win 2-1 at the John Hunt Soccer Complex.

Tyler Bell was virtually down to his last pitch. And he knew it.

The Prattville Christian Academy senior struck out Eric Doh with his final pitch – the 121st pitch of the day for Bell – and secured the save in a 5-4 victory over Montgomery Academy on Friday night that served as the tiebreaker for both teams should they finish tied atop the area standings… First-year Autauga Academy baseball coach Scott Tubbs reached a milestone on Friday when his Generals defeated Coosa Valley Academy 10-1 in the first game of a doubleheader, giving the coach his 500th career victory.

Montgomery Academy wasted no time in replacing outgoing boys’ basketball coach Anthony McCall, handing over the reins of the program to McCall’s top assistant, Jeremy Arant.

McKay Taylor had three hits and drvoe in three runs and Tyler Britton pitched five innings giving up just one hit to lead Trinity to a 13-0 five-inning win over Luverne in the opening game of the 2018 Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Classic at Riverwalk Stadium on Tuesday.

The 25th Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament begins Monday with 20 teams slated to participated. The action begins with two games at Riverwalk Stadium and games continue through Saturday at both Riverwalk and Paterson Field.

After spending much of his life working at Montgomery Academy, athletic director and boys’ basketball coach Anthony McCall is stepping down to take a job as athletic director at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Fla.
