ACA advances to state softball tourney

Alabama Christian advanced to the state softball tournament for the 21st time in the last 22 years, defeating Satsuma, 5-3, to earn one of the two Class 4A qualifiers from the South Regional at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

ACA gets no hitter to reach area tourney finals

Alabama Christian Academy pitcher Haley Pittman threw a no-hitter to lead the Lady Eagles into the finals of the Class 4A Area 4 tournament at Denise Ainsworth Field on Wednesday afternoon.

When Aubrey Blackwell was asked to consider adding head baseball coach to his duties at Catholic High, the offer intrigued him. 

Blackwell was named the 4A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Football Coaches Association, but one of his greatest passions – and his experience as a college player and coach – is baseball. The opportunity to rejuvenate the Knights’ baseball program, as well as the landscape of high school baseball in the city, was impossible to pass up.

Montgomery Catholic head football coach Aubrey Blackwell has been tabbed as the coach of the South squad in this summer’s annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week North-South Game… North Carolina A&T Aggies and the four-time defending Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) champion Jacksonville State Gamecocks will square off in the 2018 Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Cramton Bowl.

Jason Armstrong high school baseball tourney reaches 25th anniversary (SCORE UPDATE)

The 25th Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament begins Monday with 20 teams slated to participated. The action begins with two games at Riverwalk Stadium and games continue through Saturday at both Riverwalk and Paterson Field.

Andrew Sadie’s first-half performance was instrumental in St. James advancing to its fourth regional in school history with a 62-51 win over Escambia County in the St. James gym on Tuesday night, marking the first time in school history both the boys’ and girls’ programs hit the 20-win mark in the same season.

It came quietly and unexpectedly, with only a few teary-eyed goodbyes marking the historic moment.

Trinity, which tied for the 4A Area 4 regular-season championship with Catholic, fell behind early and never recovered, suffering a season-ending 56-48 loss to St. James in the area tournament on Thursday night in the Catholic gym.

The Trojans scored the last 12 points of the first half, then cruised to a 42-30 victory over Catholic in the Class 4A Area 4 tournament championship game at St. James on Friday evening
