Putting a wrap on the 2010-11 year in high school sports is hard enough to gauge without all of the controversial news items of the year.

But the River Region has endured its share as school ends and commencement exercises initiate the arrival of summer.

You probably had never heard of Buffalo receiver Stevie Johnson… at least not until he gave God Almighty all the “glory” for his drop of the winning TD in one of many losses suffered by the Bills in 2010.

“"I PRAISE YOU 24/7! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME?” was part of his “Tweet” after a loss to Pittsburgh back in November.

That makes sense. Blame your Maker. It’s what we’re all about these days.

(Dec. 24, 2009)

Sitting above the 3,000 or so fans at the HBCU game at Cramton Bowl last Saturday, I had a vision.

My dream was captured within the confines of my surroundings but with a bigger stage. I saw what I hoped would be the future.

I saw a bowl filled to capacity with fans from all parts of the state to witness a bowl game… an all-star game featuring some of the top players in the country.

PRESS PICKS: Down the stretch, Shearer leads with bowl games pending

Staff Report
(Dec. 18, 2009)

Press Picks has reached the final leg of the contest and there is a new leaderboard. WSFA’s Jeff Shearer took advantage of a difficult week for the likes of Doug Amos and Jim Tocco to take the top spot heading into the bowl picks.

Shearer holds a slim one-pick lead over Amos and two picks over Tocco. Michael Butler of WTLS is five back.
