Nick Perry from Prattville High School is the Public School Player of the Week and Crawford Steinberg from Saint James School is the Private School Player of the Week announced by the Montgomery Quarterback Club for Oct. 1-3… Former NFL Coaching Great Dan Reeves will be speaking, Oct. 15, 11:45-1:00 at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Game Day Luncheon at the RSA Activity Center, 201 Dexter Avenue… The LAMP Athletic Department is planning its second-annual golf tournament to benefit its 17 athletic teams. This year’s tournament, the LAMP All Sports Charity Golf Classic, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Lagoon Park Golf course.

Ken Blankenship wasn’t looking for another job.
But one found him.
The former high school football coach and executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association added another title to his list, officially, on Wednesday when he was announced as the new Sports Commissioner for the City of Montgomery.

Beginning Thursday, the top 12 fishermen in the country will spend two days fishing the waters of the Alabama River with $200,000 in prize money awaiting the winner in the Evan Williams Bourbon Trophy Triumph tournament.
The event is the final leg of the BASS ELITE SERIES.

Alabama All-Star Sports Week is officially returning to the Capital City, River Region Sports has learned.
The Alabama High School Athletic Director and Coaches Association, Alabama High School Athletic Association and the City of Montgomery are expected to make it official during a press conference at the AHSAA offices on Wednesday.

You might say that the Jimmy Hitchcock Award is in the blood of Roscoe Anderson.
The son and nephew of former winners, Anderson can now hold up his own plaque after the news that he had won the 2009 award announced Thursday during the 50th annual banquet at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church.
All-American swimmer and LAMP senior Laura Johnson won the girls’ edition of the award. She became the first representative from the magnet school to be a recipient.

Rory McKean has spent the last four years enjoying the life of a college student.
The winner of the 2005 Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award is not too far removed from his senior year in high school, although his demanding schedule doesn’t allow him the opportunity to return to Montgomery except for rare occasions.
